Research on iodine transport in clay barriers for nuclear safety.
The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) requires a contractor to characterize the transport properties of iodine in clay samples from the Cigar Lake uranium deposit in Saskatchewan. The work includes acquiring clay samples from clay-rich zones overlying the ore-body, characterizing key geotechnical and geochemical properties (e.g., moisture content, porosity, mineralogy, iodine leachability), developing an experimental program to measure solute transport properties (diffusion and partition coefficients) under in-situ-like conditions, and reporting findings to CNSC. This is a research and development service contract. Offerors must have expertise in clay characterization and radionuclide transport. The contract value is not specified.
