Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust seeks to replace a high sensitivity Triple Quadrupole Tandem Mass Spectrometer (TMS) coupled to an ultra-high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) system for the Blood Sciences Biochemical Genetics Unit. The system runs 10 methods including newborn blood spot analysis, processing around 120,000 samples annually for diagnosis of endocrine and metabolic disorders. The replacement must be capable of quantitating metabolites in human serum, urine, and blood spots, with high sensitivity for analytes at nmol/L concentrations. Critical requirements include multiple modes of operation, APCI and ESI ionization, polarity switching, compatibility with multi-vendor HPLC systems, and direct transferability of current methods without re-development.
